In this lesson, we will learn to draw a cherry. For our drawing, we will also add a few droplets of water, so we will look at how to draw them.
Step 1. Draw the contour of the cherry.
To start drawing the cherry, with a few light strokes outline the round shape and the stem. Connect these lines into a curve and add a recess for the stem.
Step 2. Round the cherry and add details to the cherry drawing.
Using the original contour lines, give the cherry a semi-round shape. As mentionned in our previous pineapple drawing tutorial, nature does not usually create perfect shapes. In our drawing, the cherry is slightly bent.
Step 3. Start applying shadows and mark the position of the water droplets.
In this step, mark the position of the water drops and start applying shadows while highlighting the top of the cherry.
Step 4. Draw water droplets on the cherry.
For the droplets on the cherry, use the arrows shown above to determine the direction of the cherry hatch inside the contour. Leave light areas for the image of water droplets and apply soft shadows inside them.
For the droplets near the cherry, outline the shape of the water drop in short strokes, just like you did with the cherry. Apply soft shadows and make light reflections on them with an eraser.
Step 5. Complete the shading on the cherry drawing.
Continue shading until the cherry appears glossy. Use the tip of an eraser to erase any streaks or smudges that may have been left in the highlight. Then fill in the darker areas with hatching, slightly changing the direction of the hatching to create the illusion of three-dimensionality and a glossy, shiny surface. Add the light reflection on the cherry using the eraser.
